Dear Community,

Being a neighbor is an active choice. It's the daily practice of caring for one another through small, consistent acts of generosity, respect, and connection. It's listening when someone shares a need, offering help when we can, and working together to build a community where everyone belongs. This is the heart of philanthropy.

At the Spartanburg County Foundation, being a good neighbor is not just an idea, it's what we do every day. Our work reaches across Spartanburg County and touches the lives of more than 300,000 residents. Whether we are working directly with individuals, families and corporations or supporting our nonprofit partners, we remain grounded in one shared mission: To improve the lives of all Spartanburg County residents.

We invite you to join us—by learning more through the information shared in this report, getting involved, sharing resources, or contributing to the Spartanburg Community Fund. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more caring community where every neighbor has the opportunity to thrive.

With gratitude and hope,
Troy M. Hanna, President & CEO & Ricky Richardson, Board Chair

Commitment to
Community

Kenny Mitchell's legacy lives on through a Foundation fund.

Commitment to Community

Just months after Kenny's life was tragically cut short in a 2022 car accident, his mother, Angel, transformed her grief into purpose.

Today, a fund established in his name is creating a lasting impact by helping local students pursue careers in barbering through assistance with essential supplies and professional licensing fees. By reducing financial barriers to entering a high-demand profession, the fund helps students begin their careers more quickly, increase their earning potential, and build long-term financial stability while strengthening the local economy.

Commitment to Our History

Commitment to Our History

The restoration of Walnut Grove Manor House was not only about preserving a historic structure. It was about preserving its purpose.

Guided by the donor's intent that Walnut Grove should serve as a place where schoolchildren could experience history firsthand, the project is protecting generations of stories, memories, and community history for future visitors to explore and enjoy.

When signs of structural bowing were discovered, the Foundation acted quickly to preserve and protect this beloved landmark, which welcomes thousands of visitors each year. In response, the Foundation launched a $3 million restoration campaign to address immediate needs while safeguarding the home for future generations.

By the fall of 2025, visitors were once again able to walk through the Manor House to learn about the history of the Moore Family, their settlement of the South Carolina Backcountry, the family involvement in the Revolutionary War and everyday life during Colonial times.
